Pills
It seems that with each blog I read form these assignments it never ceases to surprise me. I never thought making useful medical pills out of human waste was even possible. I believe that the science and money that is being invested in this study is well worth it. It would seem that this tactic is much more accessible and cost efficient than using the fecal transplant system. Personally if I were presented with the option to get the transplantation or the pills, I would simply chose the pills. I believe that avoiding any sort of transplantation is better in the long run. I believe that a lot of people would decline the offer of consuming these pills just because of their seeming unethical nature. I feel that people should show no shame for something that can potentially safe one's life. The author of the article even states, "these people are not eating poop." This clearly shows that the general public sees this as unethical or even gross, but then again I feel one should complete the necessary tasks for one's safety.

Good response to the article, very easy to understand what you are talking about. I am not a big fan of surgery's either, well I don't know many that are anyways, but taking pills made of human feces is weird. I would have to know everything about this pill before I even dare have it in my possession. I'm pretty sure you can get E-Coli by eating something contaminated with poop, which could lead to ultimately death. I hope they do more research and find a better cure, unless this is the only option.
ReplyDeleteGood response to the artile, it was very easy to understnad everything that you were talking about. I really don't like surgey but I would end up having to get it because I do not like pills at all. You also taught me something new because I did not know that they basically come from us.
ReplyDeleteWhat diseases are they hoping to cure by these pills? I think that I have heard that it is something to do with the bacteria in our stomachs, but I'm not quite sure. In my opinion, whether or not it's odd to have pills made from "human waste," if it has the capability to save human lives then the research is definitely worth it. It is at the very least a far better alternative to fecal transplants for the majority of people.
ReplyDeleteI also don’t understand why people would see this as “unethical” because it is a newer and safer alternative to having a painful transplant. All you have to do is down some pills and your gut infections dissapears, which is amazing to me. Doctors even give you the choice of choosing who you “poop donor” is, as stated in the article that Margaret Corbin used her daughters poop and afterwards said that she has “. . .been perfectly fine since.” The only disagreeable thing I can find about this treatment is that “It takes 24 to 34 capsules to fit the bacteria needed for treatment, and patients down them in one sitting” which is something I would find very difficult to do. Overall I do feel this is a way better alternative to curing a gut infection. Unethical? Smhh . . . I think not!
